New Oil Rules Proposed

If oil drillers cause a spill of oil or saltwater they should be required to notify the owners of the land where the spill happened That s the idea of new rules being considered by the state Department of Mineral Resources Bruce Hicks of the department says land owners have the right to know about spills on their property Other rule changes under consideration include requiring oil well operators to tell land owners their plans for reclaiming well sites at least 10 days before work begins The rule changes must be reviewed by the attorney general and a legislative committee before taking effect
